Criteria Summary These seven essential elements are the basis of Eco-Schools and when you apply for your award the assessors will be looking for evidence that each of them has informed your plan of action. 1). Eco-Schools committee: members should include pupils, teachers, non teaching staff, governors and parents. 2). Environmental Review: it is essential that a review is carried out and that pupils are involved in the process. It is not essential to use the Eco-Schools review document. 3). Action plan: there should be a written plan stating targets, and a timetable for achieving them. 4). Monitoring and evaluation: there must be evidence of pupil involvement in monitoring at an appropriate level. 5). Curriculum work: this will depend on your circumstances but some curriculum work should link to the topics in your action plan and there should be evidence of a commitment to integrating environmental education across the curriculum. 6). Informing and involving the school and wider community: all pupils should know about the school's commitment to Eco-Schools; Eco-Schools information should be on display for visitors and pupils; a day of action involving the school and wider community should take place. 7). Eco-Code: it should be on display for pupils and visitors.
